In 1955 at the tender age of 15, Ken started his five-year
apprenticeship with Broughtons of Cheltenham. He went on to become a
fully qualified technician and over the years has completed training
courses for each of the new motor cars as they arrived.
Ken now lives in Charlton Kings in Cheltenham. He has two children,
Sarah and Andrew, and three grandchildren – all boys!
In 1999 Ken realised a life-long ambition to own his own Rolls-Royce
and became the proud owner of a 1980 Silver Shadow II – XUY 122V –
in Willow Gold. They can be seen together the length and breadth of
the country as he regularly attends all major Rolls-Royce enthusiast
meetings. One of his plans for retirement is to extend his garage
(he has already started knocking walls down!) to make more room for
his beloved car. Ken is also a keen gardener, but his garden is
usually the last to be tended after looking after his children’s and
a friend’s gardens!
On Sunday 3rd August, after a wonderful lunch with more than 50 of
his colleagues, friends and family, Ken was presented with an
engraved crystal decanter and glasses, a Rolls-Royce Silver Lady
Spirit mascot (beautifully mounted on a stand and engraved) and an
old fashioned styled stereo. Ken received many other gifts from his
family and friends, including a picnic basket and some chairs for
his Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow.
